Donna M Cameron
Donna M Cameron’s debut ‘Beneath the Mother Tree’ was listed alongside novels such as ‘Boy Swallows Universe’ and ‘The Shepherd’s Hut’ in the Adelaide Advertiser’s best fiction reads for 2018. It was chosen for the Screen Queensland/QWC’s Adaptable program and longlisted for the Davitt Awards. The manuscript of her second novel – ‘The Rewilding’, won her a KSP Fellowship, was highly commended in a Writing NSW Award, and gained her a Varuna Fellowship. Published in 2024 (Transit Lounge), it made the ANZ Lit Lovers Top Ten Reads of the Year, and Words on the Waves’ Books We Swooned for in 2024.
Donna’s short stories have been published in anthologies, her plays have won longlisting, awards and competitions and have been produced for stage and national radio, including the AWGIE nominated ‘Water Tight.’ She is the author of two award-winning film scripts, one of which, ‘The Salt Maiden,’ premiered at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, won best screenplay and short film at the Port Stephens Film Festival, and was overall winner of the Avoca Cinema Coasties Film Festival 2015.
Originally an actress, Donna is an engaging public speaker who has appeared at several literary festivals, such as the Brisbane Writers Festival and the NT Writers Festival. She has worked as a moderator, a workshop facilitator and appeared on panels with the likes of Melissa Lucashenko and Kate Mildenhall.
Donna has received a Regional Arts Development Fund grant to work on her next novel, ‘Bloomfield.’
